San Juan, Argentina — French Deputy Minister for Strategic Metals, Benjamin Gallezot, met with Governor Marcelo Orrego to express France’s commitment to supporting mining and energy infrastructure projects in San Juan province.
The meeting took place during the 14th International Mining Exhibition of Argentina (Arminera), where Gallezot affirmed France’s intention to contribute financially and technically to the construction of a high-voltage transformer station and the execution of geological and hydrological studies in the region.
The French delegation, which included representatives from the French Embassy in Argentina and the French Development Agency (AFD), emphasized their desire to support French firms operating in Argentina’s strategic resource sectors. Notably, France plans to continue backing the Los Azules copper project in Calingasta, where French automaker Stellantis is already a stakeholder.
In line with its broader energy strategy, France also expressed interest in co-financing the 500 kV Rodeo Transformer Station, a key project for expanding San Juan’s renewable energy grid. AFD is evaluating its potential involvement in the project, with a focus on solar and hydroelectric integration.
Furthermore, France offered support for detailed geological surveys of mineral resources and hydrological studies to assess groundwater reserves across San Juan province, strengthening the technical foundation for future mining and energy projects.
