Expomin 2025 Kicks Off in Santiago with Carbon-Neutral Milestone and Global Outlook

SANTIAGO, Chile – April 22, 2025 — The 18th edition of Expomin 2025, Latin America’s largest mining exhibition, officially opened this Tuesday at Espacio Riesco in Santiago. Running through Saturday, April 26, the event hosts over 1,300 exhibitors and delegations from more than 35 countries, spotlighting global innovations, sustainability, and community engagement in the mining industry.

“The inauguration of Expomin’s 18th edition is a milestone that fills us with pride,” said Chile’s Minister of Mining, Aurora Williams, during the opening ceremony. “It reaffirms Chile’s position as a global mining epicenter and solidifies our leadership among the world’s most influential mining districts.”

New Goals for a Changing Industry

Expomin 2025 is more than a trade fair—it’s a platform for projecting the future of mining. The event brings together industry leaders, experts, students, and the public to address sector challenges and explore emerging trends. Notably, this year’s edition features a dedicated space for arts and culture, underscoring the industry’s growing societal role.

In a landmark announcement, Francisco Sotomayor, General Manager of Expomin, revealed that the event is the first mining trade show in Chile to achieve carbon neutrality, verified under the Ministry of Environment’s Huella Chile program.

“This marks a milestone in our sector’s commitment to addressing climate change,” Sotomayor noted.

Innovation, Inclusion, and International Dialogue

This year, 115 SMEs and 165 first-time exhibitors are participating, showcasing new technologies and services. The Expomin International Congress will feature top-tier speakers from across industries, with sessions focused on AI, climate change, sustainability, and strategic innovation.

“We aimed to bring the best mining fair in Latin America to Chile,” said Patricio Hidalgo, CEO of Anglo American Chile, which chairs the 2025 edition. “That meant bringing in world-class speakers to anticipate the trends shaping our industry.”

Expomin has also partnered with universities and technical institutes, reflecting a strategic effort to link the mining sector with Chile’s academic and educational communities.

Mining Meets the People: A Historic Opening to the Public

For the first time in its history, Expomin will open its doors to the general public on Saturday, April 26, in a bid to bring Chile’s most important industry closer to its people. The day will feature family-friendly activities and a curated program of cultural events, including live performances and art exhibits.

“The cultural program begins today and runs throughout the week. It shows how mining actively promotes arts and culture,” added Sotomayor.

Gender Parity: Nearing a Milestone

Expomin 2025 also celebrates significant progress toward gender parity in its Congress lineup.

“In 2021, women accounted for 30% of our speakers. That rose to 40% in 2023, and this year we’ve reached 49%,” said Sotomayor. “We’re not there yet, but we’re close to achieving the equality we aspire to.”
